1.Alternative Leather Material:

-MycoWorks and Bolt Threads have worked with clothing brands such as Adidas, Lululemon and Stella McCartney to develop mycelium leather.

-The Vietnamese sustainable bio-materials manufacturer TômTex has developed a leather alternative made from shrimp shells, which is blended with other green materials through a 100% sustainable chemical process.

-Celanese and Under Armour have collaborated and developed a new high-performance elastic fabric fiber called NEOLAST. It features exceptional elasticity, quick-drying moisture-wicking capabilities, durability, and recyclability.

-Adidas released its latest Golf collection which removed spandex than replaced it into their TWISTKNIT and TWISTWEAVE. The material naturally moves with the body, rather than compressing and stretching or recovering like spandex. 

3. Carbon-capturing Fibers

-Lululemon released their latest packable Anorak jacket which utilizes LanzaTech's carbon emission capture technology.

-Swiss sportswear brand On collaborated with LanzaTech and others to launch the first Cloudprime running shoes made from carbon-captured materials, which is the first shoes collection exploring the use of carbon emissions as a primary raw material for shoe midsoles.

-The U.S. technology startup Rubi, backed by H&M and Patagonia, pioneered cell-free bio-catalytic technology to produce carbon dioxide-derived materials and chemicals, offering a sustainable and efficient solution for manufacturing carbon dioxide-derived materials.

4. Single Recycled Material

-ZARA collaborated with BASF to launch the first Loopamid jacket made entirely from a single recycled material, which following a "design for recycling" approach. All components, including the fabric, buttons, padding, hook-and-loop fasteners, zippers, sewing threads, and inner labels, are made from Loopamid.

-Arc'teryx has partnered with Canadian composite manufacturer ALUULA Composites to utilize ALUULA's next-generation composite materials for developing ultra-lightweight, high-performance, and recyclable products, which are expected to replace traditional coated and laminated woven fabrics.

5. Performance & Comfort

-Global military fabric manufacturer Carrington Textiles has launched a revolutionary, comfortable, and stretchable military ripstop fabric. This lightweight fabric is crafted from military-grade CORDURA® T420 nylon 6.6 staple fiber, and what sets it apart is the strategic incorporation of 2% LYCRA® fiber, offering unparalleled comfort and comprehensive stretch properties.

-TenCate Protective Fabrics, a leader in flame-resistant textiles, has integrated XLANCE elastic fibers into their flame-resistant fabrics. These fabrics can withstand high-temperature industrial washing without compromising protective quality and maintain their shape over multiple wash cycles. 6. PFAS-Free

-In 2022, California State enacted the AB 1817 bill, which explicitly prohibits the manufacture and sale of textiles containing PFAS starting from January 1, 2025.

-In the same month, Washington State released a preliminary draft rule, planning to halt the manufacture, sale, and distribution of most cleaning agents, car wash products, and apparel intentionally containing PFAS within the state starting from January 1, 2027.

-In May of 2024, the French Senate passed a PFAS bill, which mandates a ban on the production, import, export, and distribution of cosmetics, waxes, non-protective textiles, and shoes containing PFAS in France starting from January 1, 2026.

7. Bio-enzymatic recycling

-In February and April of 2024, lululemon collaborated with Australian environmental technology startup Samsara Eco to launch the world's first enzyme-recycled nylon 6,6 long-sleeve top and the jacket that made by enzyme-recycled material.

-In December, Samsara Eco announced the development of a new enzyme capable of infinitely recycling nylon 6.

-In October, the French material company Carbios, in collaboration with On, Patagonia, PUMA, and Salomon, launched its first 100% "fiber-to-fiber" bio-recycled garment—also utilizing bio-enzymatic recycling technology—made from 100% textile waste into enzymatically recycled polyester clothing.

8. Smart Wear

-Samsung, in collaboration with Cheil Benelux, Elitac Wearables, Brut Amsterdam, and sports shoe designer Roel van Hoff, has developed a "future sneaker" called the Shortcut Sneaker. The shoe features motion sensors in the sole to track the relative positions of the feet, and uses AI algorithms to capture foot movements, thereby triggering different phone buttons to control the device.

-Nike has partnered with Hyperice to launch the Nike x Hyperice smart shoes and vest. By integrating smart heating elements and sensors, the products provide on-demand heating and dynamic air compression massage for athletes' feet and ankles, helping athletes regulate their body temperature to precise levels during warm-up and recovery.

-Arc'teryx has teamed up with Skip to introduce MO/GO—the world's first powered pants designed to make human movement more enjoyable. By utilizing wearable robotics and carbon fiber support structures, it addresses mobility challenges caused by aging, fatigue, and injuries, enabling users to tackle elevation changes in unprecedented ways.
